The network is apparently undergoing a programming restructuring that has reportedly canceled longtime anchor Joy Reid’s show.
Speaking to the New York Times, the reshuffle includes Reed’s 7 p.m. show, The Raid out, hosted by the network’s new president, Rebecca Cutler.
Speaking to the outlet, Reed’s final episode is scheduled for sometime this coming week. They added that MSNBC is planning to replace three anchors—Simon Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele—who are currently on the show with a new show. Townsend is a Democratic strategist and former adviser to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost the race for the White House to Donald Trump in November. Steele, a former lieutenant governor of Maryland and also one of the network’s top hosts, has been canceled, nearly a month after former MSNBC president Rash ida Jones resigned from the network to complete her nearly four-year tenure. Following Jones’ departure, Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Universal Media Group, told the network’s staff, “There’s a lot to do.” That he was leaving NBC News. The announcement follows Todd’s prominent role in pushing back against NBC’s decision to hire former RNC chairwoman Ron na McDaniel in March 2024.
The left-leaning network eventually removed McDaniel, who led the RNC during Trump’s first presidential administration.
Reed told Rachel Mad dow, another top MSNBC host, of NBC’s decision to drop McDaniel, “I know I felt very strongly about it; I think I should acknowledge it publicly.” “I’m actually grateful to Caesar for making the right decision. I think it was the right decision.” Malicious actors are spreading disinformation online to fuel intolerance and undermine democracy.
